Detroit fire crews and medical personnel came under attack while responding to a crash scene overnight Monday.
They were attempting to care for a driver who crashed violently into a building and required assistance. A passenger needed help, as well. As first responders arrived around 3 a.m., they were pelted with rocks and at one point, fire equipment, WDIV reported.

Crews weren’t able to get close enough to offer assistance.
“One person reportedly grabbed a piece of equipment off a fire engine and shattered the truck’s windshield,” according to the news station.
“A male (John Doe) driving a black 2013 GMC Terrain struck a building. He was transported to a local hospital and was pronounced deceased. No further information is available at this time,” Detroit police Corporal Dan Donakowski told WXYZ.
It is not yet clear whether the crowd’s behavior contributed to the driver’s death. Fire crews were “forced to abandon the scene due to an unruly crowd that busted the windshield of one of the department’s fire rigs.”
“We ask the residents of Detroit to cooperate with our first responders and to not distract them when they are delivering medical care to their fellow citizens,” Detroit Fire Department Commissioner Chuck Simms said.
