At least two top Michigan Democrats turned on pro-Hamas U.S. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D) Saturday after Tlaib defended the antisemitic chant, “From the river to the sea.”

On Friday, Tlaib, who is Palestinian, posted a video warning President Joe Biden is anti-Hamas stance could jeopardize his 2024 re-election chances. The video twice included the “From the river to the sea” chant, which refers to the Palestinians eliminating the Jewish state.

From the river to the sea is an aspirational call for freedom, human rights, and peaceful coexistence, not death, destruction, or hate,” Tlaib claimed. “My work and advocacy is always centered in justice and dignity for all people no matter faith or ethnicity.”

At least two Jewish Michigan Democrats weren’t buying it.

This is not how Jews view the phrase ‘from the river to the sea,’” state Sen. Jeremy Moss (D) responded. “This is not how Hamas views the phrase ‘from the river to the sea.’ Hamas uses it as a rallying cry. And they don’t simply want to displace Jews in Israel. They want Jews dead.”

Attorney General Dana Nessel (D) was more personal:

@RashidaTlaib, I have supported and defended you countless times, even when you have said the indefensible, because I believed you to be a good person whose heart was in the right place,” Nessel wrote.
“But this is so hurtful to so many. Please retract this cruel and hateful remark.”

Tlaib’s video is a montage of pro-Hamas protests across America, along with carnage in Gaza, allegedly by Israel:

“Mr. President, the American people are not with you on this one,” Tlaib claimed, despite a recent poll showing 78 percent of respondents believe Hamas is a terrorist organization.

Tlaib’s video featured footage from protests in Michigan in which pro-Hamas participants chanted “From the river to the sea,” a popular antisemitic refrain at recent protests.

“We will remember in 2024,” Tlaib warned Biden.

The video ended with the text, “Joe Biden supported the genocide of the Palestinian people. The American people won’t forget. Biden, support a ceasefire now or don’t count on us in 2024.”
