Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, a rumored potential replacement for President Joe Biden on the Democratic ticket, made a policy announcement Tuesday as a talking potato.
Whitmer, who is scheduled to make her annual State of the State address Wednesday evening, teased a plan to offer two years of community college to high school graduates for “free”, alongside a professor who apparently teaches his Zoom class as a potato:
Professor Potato and I are teaming up to share some news that will revolutionize higher education in Michigan.
This isn't just small potatoes, it's a game-changer! pic.twitter.com/AhIDBqjMrB

Whitmer can be seen offering several potato-related puns before turning into the vegetable herself for the plan that doesn’t yet have a price tag.
The rumored short list of potential replacements for Biden also includes California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

Newsom’s strategy to raise his national profile included a debate with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, then a candidate for the Republican nomination for president.
The two held a 90-minute policy debate about the economy, jobs, and inflation.
If Whitmer ever does muster the courage to have another debate — after being trounced by Republican rival Tudor Dixon during two match-ups in 2022 — it’s not clear if she would appear as herself, or a lipstick-wearing potato.
It’s not Whitmer’s first attempt to appear trendy.
