Former Ambassador Ric Grenell is endorsing Mike Rogers for the Republican nomination to the U.S. Senate.

Grenell, a Michigan native and Donald Trump confidant, may be a key indicator of how other Trump allies may move in the race.

“I am proud to endorse my friend Mike Rogers for U.S. Senate. Michigan desperately needs a Senator who will put the American people first and I know Mike will be that Senator,” Grenell said.

The Grenell endorsement comes after the Police Officers Association of Michigan, the Southeastern Michigan Association of Chiefs of Police, and 30 Michigan Sheriffs have also backed Rogers in the primary.

“We are proud to endorse Mike Rogers for the Republican primary in the U.S. Senate campaign,” Southeast Michigan Chamber of Commerce CEO John Johnson recently said in a statement. “His extensive experience in public service, coupled with his unwavering commitment to economic development, make him the right choice for our endorsement on the Republican side of the ticket.”
