Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin last week sided with transgender activists who want to allow biological males in women’s sports.

Slotkin was among 205 Democrats who voted on Thursday against congressional disapproval of the Biden Administration’s rewrite of Title IX protections, “which forces schools to allow men who identify as women to compete in women’s sports, take scholarships from women, and enter women’s spaces like their locker rooms,” according to the National Republican Senatorial Committee.

“Elissa Slotkin wants men to compete in women’s sports,” NRSC spokeswoman Maggie Abboud said. “It is unfair, and radical.”

Polling seems to support that assertion.

A survey of Americans released by Gallup last June found a mere 26% believe transgender athletes should be able to play on teams that match their gender identity, a figure that dropped eight percentage points from 2021.

Sixty-nine percent of those surveyed believe sports teams should be limited by birth gender, up seven percentage points from 2021. The same poll found 55% of Americans – four percentage points more than in 2021 – believe changing genders is “morally wrong.”

“While this should never have become a political issue, there are very few issues that the majority of the general public can agree on, but this is one of them,” Riley Gaines, a former college swimmer and national advocate for maintaining the integrity of women’s sports, told Fox News. “The pendulum has swung too far, and people are beginning to see what’s at stake if it continues.”

“The percentage of Americans who disagree with allowing men to compete in women’s sports will only increase, but unfortunately, more girls will be injured, exploited in the locker room, and lose out on opportunities in the meantime,” she said.

Abboud contends “Slotkin is completely out-of-touch with the Michiganders she wants to represent if she thinks men should be competing in women’s sports.”

Slotkin hasn’t bothered to explain her vote to support the Biden administration’s efforts to put biologically male transgender athletes in women’s sports, but it aligns with her voting record since Michigan voters sent her to the lower chamber in 2019.

Last April, the second-term congresswoman voted against the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act to strip federal funding from schools that allow biologically male participants in women’s sports.

She also signed on to support the Equality Act in 2019, which prohibits “discrimination” based on sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity in government services and funding.

During her re-election campaign in 2022, Slotkin criticized her opponent, Republican state Sen Tom Barrett, for opposing gender reassignment surgery for minors, but refused to explain to The Daily Caller at what age she believes it’s appropriate.

“Elissa Slotkin has become an advocate for transgenderism to children ages 4-8, but has yet to take a public position on what age she supports gender reassignment surgery. The Biden administration has taken a position in support, and HHS Secretary Becerra has testified before Congress affirming his support for taxpayer funding for gender reassignment surgery for minors,” Barrett spokesman Jason Roe said at the time.

The Human Rights Campaign endorsed Slotkin in each of her campaigns for the House, and issued her a 100% rating in the campaign’s Congressional Scorecard for her “support for equality” during both the 116th and 117th Congresses.

Slotkin is running to replace a retiring Sen. Debbie Stabenow, and is expected to face off against former Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers in November, though both face primary challengers who are trailing in the polls. Slotkin has led Rogers by 5% or less in general election polls conducted in May and June, according to the poll tracking site FiveThirtyEight.

“My opponent Elissa Slotkin just voted to approve Joe Biden’s total rewrite of Title IX, eliminating five decades of progress and success for girls and womens’ sports,” Rogers posted to X. “Elissa Slotkin is out of touch with Michiganders, and is way too radical to represent us in the Senate.”
