Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer — a Biden campaign co-chair — skipped a high-stakes visit to Michigan by President Joe Biden Friday.

Biden, who is attempting to battle back calls by numerous members of his own party to drop out of the presidential race, rallied supporters in Detroit to assuage fears he’s no longer up to the job.

It’s always great to have President @JoeBiden in Detroit!” Whitmer’s account tweeted while she was nearly 2,000 miles away. “Motor City is all in for Biden-Harris.”

Newsweek reports Whitmer was instead attending an exclusive gathering of wealthy elites and politicos angling for their money.

According to Crain’s Detroit, Whitmer has no speaking role and her office would not provide details.
