Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer told the “Sherri” show this week that she fears for her safety while going to a “black church” because of the alleged 2020 kidnapping plot.
The daytime talk show appearance was intended to humanize the often impersonal Whitmer. When the topic of the alleged “kidnapping assassination” came up, Whitmer was asked by host Sherri Shepard, “Did it change your world?”

“I love people, that’s why I do this work,” Whitmer responded. “I love to go into places and just start up conversations with people. You know, after that, I’ve got to be a lot more mindful about where I go and I’m always thinking about who’s in the room and how I might exit a room if I needed to,” she said.
“But my biggest concern is for the people around me,” Whitmer continued. “I have the State Police, I’ve never really had to worry about my protection, but everyone around me I worry about. From the State Police to my staff to my family and so it has changed,” she told Sherpard.
“I would love to be carefree and walk into a bowling alley or a black church or a black-tie dinner and not have to think about those things, but now I do and it’s just a natural part of who I am,” Whitmer said.
