Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson triumphantly declared yesterday “Democracy” had been preserved by Michigan Court of Claims Judge Sima Patel. Saved, that is, from a Republican threat that would have barred military service members overseas the right to vote.

However, Benson’s assertion is a straw man of her own creation. The Republican suit had nothing to do with military service members on its face.

Instead, the suit would have in fact prevented anyone from voting from overseas in Michigan — if they had never lived in the state, and would have included the spouses and dependents of overseas service members if they themselves had never resided in Michigan.

The Michigan suit was one of several calling for additional verification from overseas voters, including in North Carolina and Pennsylvania.

Benson’s false claim that the Michigan Republican Party suit would have stopped military service members from voting is a coping mechanism for Democrats’ last-ditch strategy: drumming up votes from Americans who no longer live in America

The group behind the overseas effort, Democrats Abroad, has links with Obama administration officials who aided in regime change in several countries, and the 2020 campaign Time Magazine lauded as “fortifying” the election running a “color revolution” playbook used in the overseas regime change scheme.

Judges in Michigan and North Carolina both on Monday rejected GOP suits calling for ID and address verification for overseas votes.

Benson’s statement was a false claim: the Republican suit called for additional verification to ensure that the voter had actually ever lived in Michigan.
