There’s a little display at Walled Lake Northern High School that’s getting a lot of attention, for all the wrong reasons.

“Hey @WalledLkSchools there is NO pride in grooming,” Republican state Rep. Matt Maddock posted to X on Tuesday, along with an image of the display.

Inside a glass enclosure, there’s a handmade sign that reads simply “GSA,” as well as 17 colorful flags, about a dozen books, a coffee mug, a few toys and t-shirts, Halloween decorations, and smaller signs that read “Rise up for LGBTQ+ Youth.”

The flags on display include the Gay Pride Flag, in addition to the Philadelphia People of Color Inclusive Flag, Progress Pride Flag, Non Binary Flag, Transgender Flag, Lesbian Pride Flag, Pansexual Pride Flag, and Bisexual Flag, according to Pride.com.

Two QR codes taped to the front glass offer “more information about the GSA.”

Do you think the economy will come back roaring quickly when Trump takes office?

By completing the poll, you agree to receive emails from The Midwesterner, occasional offers from our partners and that you've read and agree to our privacy policy and legal statement.

Those codes lead students to a website for the school’s Gay/Straight Alliance, which meets in English teacher Steven Piziks’ classroom, A205, every other Wednesday.

“The Gay/Straight Alliance is open to ALL students, regardless of orientation or gender identity. (In other words, it’s not just for LGBTQ+ students!),” the webpage reads. “We provide provide (sic) a SAFE SPACE for support, discussions about current topics, food (we’re famous for having snacks), games, and more. We don’t keep a formal membership list, and members who want to stay private may do so. You don’t need to come to every meeting to be a member.”

A review of Piziks’ Facebook page shows the English teacher regularly posts anti-Trump and pro-Democratic political musings, along with LGBTQ propaganda, TikTok videos featuring salt and pepper shakers, cartoons, and images from world travels. Piziks’ X page and posts are only available to “approved followers.”

Just four years ago, the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools fired teacher and coach Justin Kucera after he posted on social media about his support for President Donald Trump.

“I’m done being silent,” Kucera posted on July 6, 2020. “@realDonaldTrump is our president.”

Other posts included a retweet from the president suggesting schools should reopen that fall, and another in the comments that “liberals suck man.”

Kucera later sued the school district, noting in the lawsuit the teacher “did not discuss his political views in the classroom, and all debate regarding this matter took place on social media outside of school grounds,” The Detroit News reports.

Regardless, folks on X were not impressed by Walled Lake’s LGBTQ+ advocacy.

“So disturbing that my tax dollars are going to this (my district),” one user posted.

“How does a ‘pride agenda’ contribute to education?” another wrote. “It doesn’t.”

“I can’t imagine a reality where anyone would need to display in public and at their employment what they do in the bedroom,” a third posted. “Yet here we are. It is DISGUSTING!”

“Our daughter went through the WLSD as a child, she is now an adult and I’m forever grateful she isn’t in their classrooms anymore, however, our taxpayer dollars go to this district so it makes it even worse,” another wrote.

On Nov. 5, voters approved a $33 million millage for Walled Lake schools, which the district said in a press release represents 18% of the district’s $187 million revenue budget. That millage followed a $250 million bond proposal approved in May, C & G News reports.

About $6.6 million of those revenues, or about 3.55% come from the federal government, according to the district’s 2024-25 budget.

President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to purge public schools of “critical race theory and transgender insanity” and to block federal funds from schools that refuse to comply, The Washington Post reports.

“President Trump has a mandate from the American people to go back to common sense governance,” Tiffany Justice, co-founder of Moms for Liberty, a conservative parents’ rights group, and one of several being considered as Trump’s education secretary, told the news site. “He is going to end gender ideology across America.”

It’s a promise Trump repeated numerous times during his successful campaign, and one spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said he intends to keep.

“He will deliver,” Leavitt told the Post.
