It may be a wrap for state Rep. Julie Brixie’s time in Lansing.

The Meridian Township Democrat described her illegal antics at the Capitol this week as a prank on state Rep. Matt Maddock, R-Milford, but her colleagues are now questioning her sanity, and calling for consequences for her actions.

State Rep. Angela Rigas, R-Caledonia, laid out the situation in a post to Facebook on Thursday.

“Today, during a session, Rep. Julie Brixie was recognized on the house floor for pretending to have guests in the gallery,” Rigas wrote. “On the microphone, she announced that there was a black vehicle in the parking garage with its engine running and hood open, then read the license plate.

“The vehicle belonged to State Representative Matt Maddock. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the engine was not running, the hood was not open, but the vehicle had plastic wrapped around it,” she wrote. “This behavior is not only strange but also unbecoming of an elected official, as faking an emergency during a government session and vandalizing a vehicle of an opposing political party is illegal.

“I hope there are serious consequences for these actions. Her constituents must be questioning her stability, and I am as well,” Rigas wrote.

“My good colleague from the 51st district parked in two spots, including mine, to make sure no one hit his fancy car,” Brixie said. “I Saran wrapped it to give it an extra layer of protection.”

Maddock responded to the stunt in the media and online.

“I parked in an empty spot,” he told The News. “I didn’t realize it’d turn into the highlight of Brixie’s year.”

“@juliebrixie keeps trying to get my attention and I keep telling her I’m married,” Maddock posted to X. “When @juliebrixie said she wanted to wrap me in thin plastic because of how obviously frustrated she is this isn’t what I had in mind.”

“Brixies rap career is a lot like ODB: defined by their insanity and tragically cut short by mental illness,” he posted.

The House released Friday security footage showing Brixie and an unnamed staffer:

The vehicle, a black BMW, actually belongs to Maddock’s wife, Republican activist Meshawn Maddock, who also weighed in online.

“Rep Brixie makes a false statement otherwise known as a LIE in the presence of the entire Michigan House, after wrapping my car in plastic like a 13 year old girl,” Meshawn Maddock posted to X. “Democrats arent just soft on crime, like Brixie, they are crime.”

Reporters with MIRSnews and Gongwer posted images of Brixie and Maddock’s wrapped vehicle in the parking garage online, while Democratic leaders worked to minimize the damage.

“Probably the least surprising thing we’ve ever learned: Matt Maddock takes up two parking spaces for his BMW. For all his ‘America First’ talk, he doesn’t even drive a Michigan-built union-made American car,” Curtis Hertel, chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, posted to X.
