Gotion High-Tech, a China-based company with admitted links to the Chinese Communist Party, and its US agents have offered a variety of responses to legislators and the media about how much workers would be paid at the plant it intends to build near Big Rapids.

In an October memo, the Michigan Economic Development Corp. said the average wage would be $29.42 an hour, or about $61,000 annually, MiBiz reported.

During testimony to the Senate appropriations committee in March, Green Charter Township Supervisor Jim Chapman said wages would average “about $52,000 per year,” Bridge Michigan said.

Later that month, that figure dropped again when Chapman told The Epoch Times “it was his understanding that the starting pay at the new factory will be $45,000 a year.”

In April, that number was stated again as $45,000 a year, according to Fox 17.

The Senate appropriations committee delayed an anticipated vote on government funding for the Gotion project last week.

“Our members still have some more questions,” Senate Appropriations Chair Sarah Anthony (D) told reporters after the lack of action, Bridge Michigan reported. “That’s really the function of this committee — to ask the questions, to vet (projects) before we review.”

Anthony said she wants to know “more about the potential wages and benefits” and floated the idea of company executives testifying again, as soon as April 19.
